Today My post is on famous south Indian style jewelry "Kasulaperu" Also known as kasumala , is one of the main ornament in South Indian jewelry. Though it is very old ornament but has its own importance in all traditional jewels.
The Kasu Mala is an essential necklace in every South Indian woman’s jewelry collection. Kasu (coin) Mala (necklace) as known in Kasulaperu(Kasula Peru, line of kasulu )in Telugu , Kasu Malai in Tamil, and Malayalam and Kannada, is made up of little gold coins and most often with inscription of Lakshmi or Ram parivar. The Kasu Mala, is designed with Lakshmi on each and every coin is called as Lakshmi Kasu Mala.
You already might have came across various kinds of jewelry which are really famous and even traditional. But, It would be incomplete without mentioning these kasulaperu especially in south Indian weddings. Whenever you go out for a marriage or any special occasion, you can able to find the women wearing this Kasumala. Especially, the brides prefer to wear this designer Kasulaperu (or) designer Kasu mala.

Coins have been used extensively to design jewelry since ancient times and historians trace this style of coin necklace back to the Vedic period. They come in a variety of traditional and modern designs and is a favorite with both with young girls and older women. History
Kasulaperu is an indigenous style of jewelry. Historians trace it back to the Andhra Ikshvaku dynasty of Bhattiprolu (Pratipalapura). The Nishka gold coin necklace which has been traced back to as far back as the Vedic period had become popular in Andhra. Kasulaperu, is thus, seen as a descendant. Versions of it can be seen even today in sculptures from Amaravati. The name Kasulaperu is itself traced to the Sanskrit word Karsapana, which was the ancient Indian currency and name for coin.
By wearing it, it gives a certain dignity and sense of adornment to the neck. It communicates a feeling as if Lakshmi Devi herself is residing with you. Women usually buy these Lakshmi embossed coins and perform pooja as part of Vara Lakshmi Vrat or Akshay Thritiya and use those coins to make this Kasu Mala.
