Winter Skin & Hair Care Tips

Most of us love winter season. The chilly season makes us feel fresh and alive. Sweaters, Coats, boots, scarves, Glasses and what not! But, unfortunately, winter is the time when our skin does not like to cooperate with us.
During these months, our skin tends to get dry, itchy, and dull due to lack of moisture. We usually look around for good cold creams and body butters to moisturize dry skin
A few simple steps will restore your skin and hair to their former magnificence and even better.
But every lady wishes to look beautiful even in winter season. This is the time to get some winter care tips. It will make your skin complexion better. Lets Get Started !!

Winter Skin Care

Wash in Luke Warm Water

Since it is winter you will definitely enjoy the hot bath. But this is again not good for your skin. No matter how comforting a hot water bath sounds, it must be avoided. Not the bath, the hot water.  Instead, use lukewarm water that will protect the skin from losing its natural oils, which hot water happily removes, leaving the skin scratchy and extra dry. But if you still wish to have a bath with slightly more warm water then add some oil like coconut , olive, sesame or into your bucket of water which helps by making a coat on the body and keep your skin hydrated.

Moisturize Daily

Your skin requires extra moisture during winter.
Apply the cream that will last for the full day. Do this just after the bath. You should also use the moisturizing face mask. There will be tendency that your skin will become dry repeatedly. All you have to do is get a moisturizer handy. Use this moisturizer every time whenever you have dry skin tone. Even those who have oily skin must use light moisturizing lotions after cleansing to keep the skin soft.

Remember to moisturize yourself  immediately after a bath while the skin is still wet. This ensures that the moisture is sealed in, leaving the skin hydrated and supple.  Aloevera gel is a  good natural moisturizer.

 Lip Care

Dry lips are very common on cold days. Almost everyone have them. Lips have a very thin skin that loses moisture faster in the cold wind that is why they end up being dry. Winter sucks the beauty of your lips.

Exfoliating is a good idea to remove the dry, dead or chapped skin cells instead of peeling off the skin on lips, that even may causing bleeding also. After exfoliating, the lips look fresher and evener. You must moisturize your lips after scrubbing. Use the mixer of honey and brown sugar as a natural exfoliator. You can also use any good readymade scrub, toothbrush or washcloth to rub gently to exfoliate the lips. And don’t scrub more than twice a week.
Always use moisturized lip sticks and lip balm while you going out.

Use sunscreen

People have an opinion that if there is a sky full of cloud, they won’t need sunscreen to protect their skin. But this will be a wrong concept. Even the experts says that sun will cause damage to your skin layer regardless of the cloud in the sky. You should definitely use the sunscreen on your skin even if this is a winter season.  This should be used 30 minutes before you go out.

Keep Exfoliate

Exfoliation is a must to remove the dead cells and to allow the new skin cells to come up, breathe and be moisturized. Using a scrub once or twice a week should do the trick to rejuvenate the skin.  Mostly stick to homemade scrubs like coconut oil/ Olive oil with sugar or butter with turmeric etc .. those are chemical free and natural too.

Moisturize Before bed

Moisturizing is the main mantra for you with the arrival of winter.Don't be lazy about the night cream routine. Follow it religiously.   Make a deep moisturizing coat as you won’t get up in the next 7-8 hours at night. Lesser preservatives make for better and longer lasting creams. Apply any deep moisturizing lotions or gel or coco butter thw whole body before you go to bed. That can repair your skin through out the night and you can see the difference  by next morning  with a fresh look.

Take Healthy Food

Eating nourishing food items like sweet potato, dry fruits, amla and other seasonal fruits will help in boosting skin and body immunity.  Vitamin A helps to maintain and repair the skin tissue. Take milk products, apricots, carrots, etc. rich in Vitamin A. Skim milk, Swiss cheese, red meat, silken tofu, fortified cereals, eggs, etc. contain vitamin B. It helps to retain the moisturizer to the skin. Take the diets having  vitamin C. It increases the collagen production to make the skin and hair suppler and fuller. Vitamin C also repairs the tissue by protecting the skin from the sunburn.  Eat various vegetables and citrus fruits rich in vitamin C. Vitamin E evens out the aging signs, like fine lines or wrinkles. Nuts, eggs, leafy vegetables, etc. have Vitamin E.

Care your palms and feet

It is not only your facial skin which you need to care. Your hand palm adn feet also plays an important role in day to day life. These areas will be much dry and cannot hold enough moisture. You should wear gloves  to protect your palms. Also try to get the woolen gloves.
Soak your feet in warm water at night for 15 minutes. Scrub with a pumice stone.Generously apply cream on your feet as they also need extra care and wear cotton socks to protect them further from developing cracks.  Lactic acid cream is a better option in which crushed camphor can be added for exfoliating and nourishing properties.

Fluid intake

During winter your body needs a lot of water and fluid. If you don’t wish to have enough water, compensate the same with the fluid. Drinking plenty of water prevents dehydration specially since the dry air from heaters that are used in most households can exaggerate dryness. You can have juices and non alcoholic beverages during the winter. The main problem with the winter is the dryness that caused to your skin. Since your body lacks moisture, the dryness and discomfort feeling will be always present. It is important for you to intake good amount of fluids during winter to stay rejuvenated. Even your skin will remain really healthy.

Care for Hair

Try to avoid Harsh shampoos for washing your hair and Make a habit of applying the conditioner after the hair wash with any mild shampoo. Also, Never use hot water for hair wash whether it is summer or winter. That makes your hair follicles weak and you hair becomes thin and lifeless.
Blow drying is a complete no-no even if it is tempting on a cold day to dry your hair. The brittle winter hair is only damaged further by blow drying so avoid it and if it is absolutely necessary apply serum  before blow-drying your hair.

Dandruff is one of the main problem during winters. Step one in preventing dandruff is to take cooler, quicker showers to reduce the scalp’s exposure to drying hot water. Think about switching to a dandruff or dry scalp-specific shampoo.
Before taking the shower, massage the scalp with Vitamin E, olive, almond or coconut oil. These oils replenish natural scalp oils and can moisturize dry hair too.  Tea tree oil is also a popular treatment for fungal and bacterial infections like dandruff . Wash the hair and scalp with tea tree oil daily to cure a dry, itchy head naturally.

ACV ( Apple Cider Vinegar) is a best remedy for itchy scalp and  also a natural conditioner for your hair. Just mix equal quantities of water and ACV , and wash your scalp with this mixture. Don't wash  your hair after this.

Wrap your Body

If you want to enjoy the cold and feel comfortable in the deep freeze , then you should follow few steps. It is possible to stay warm and enjoy the outdoors during the winter with proper clothing and accessories.

There are a variety of clothing options to keep warm in cold weather. Layering is a good idea, as is having a durable warm coat, but don't forget accessories like glasses, socks, hats and gloves to protect the entire body.  Layering with thermal underclothes and coats helps to keep us warm. Always carry an extra pair of scarf, earmuffs  and pair of gloves and socks in your bag.

Use DIY Masks

A few home remedies must be kept handy. Take curd, straight from the fridge and apply it on extra dry skin or even on any kind of rash. If your skin is very dry you can mix 2/3 drops of glycerine in it too and leave it on for about 20 minutes and then wash it off  with rose water or plain water. This will leave your skin feeling definitely healthier and softer. Honey is a perfect replacement for Glycerine.
Another trick is using Vitamin E ( Evion) capsules. Cut or burst open a capsule. Apply it directly to dry or mature skin. Leave it on for 20 minutes then wipe your face gently with a soft cotton cloth

Always carry a pet bottle of moisturizer or a lotion and a lip balm handy in your bag not only for outdoor trip but also to the work. At least carry a coconut oil in a pet bottle If they are not available, that works for all.

We hope that now you have the perfect skin care routine. With these simple tips you can regain your natural glow and your hair strength.
